Jason Momoa, the beloved Aquaman star, is a proud father of two wonderful children, daughter Lola Iolani and son Nakoa-Wolf. He welcomed them with his ex-wife, Lisa Bonet, in July 2007 and December 2008.

Bonet, also the mother of The Batman actress Zoë Kravitz, shares a unique bond with Momoa despite their separation. Although Jason and Lisa decided to part ways in 2022 after being married for nearly five years, and officially filed for divorce in January 2024, Momoa still sees Bonet and Kravitz as part of his family. He’s made it clear that their connection goes beyond legal ties.

As his children have gotten older, Momoa has had to adjust to the realities of parenting teens. Speaking to PEOPLE in March 2024, he reflected on how he’s embraced his evolving role as a father, no longer the "cool dad" he once was.

"I spent a lot of time with them when they were younger, which is super important," he said.

"They traveled with me quite a bit. But now, going into high school, they’ve got their friends and stuff. They still like me, which is good. I’m probably losing cool factor daily.”

1. Family First

One memorable family moment came in March 2022 when Momoa brought his kids, Lola and Nakoa-Wolf, to the premiere of The Batman in New York City. They were there to support their half-sister, Zoë Kravitz, who plays Catwoman in the film.

Also present was Zoë’s then-boyfriend, Channing Tatum, who flew in with Momoa to show his support. Despite Jason and Lisa’s separation, their blended family remains close.

The Fast X star proudly stated to Entertainment Tonight that even though he and Bonet were no longer together, their connection with Kravitz remains strong.

"Lisa couldn't be here so we're representing, me and the babies," he shared. "We're very excited to just be here. ... It's still family, you know?"

2. Precious Moments

In fact, Zoë Kravitz’s relationship with her half-siblings is equally strong. The family’s close bond is something fans can’t help but admire.

Jason’s affection for Zoë is evident in his affectionate nickname for her: "ZoZo." A source close to the family told PEOPLE in 2022, "He loves Zoë and always has. That hasn’t changed. He believes in family."

3. The "Aqua Dad"

Momoa’s role as Aquaman in the Justice League franchise has also given his kids a fun, hands-on experience. Known for his character’s impressive body tattoos in the film (though fake for the role), Momoa’s real-life tattoos are part of his identity.

In 2017, he shared a photo on Instagram of his kids covered in fake tattoos, captioning it, "Raising sensitive savages. Priceless day on set proud to be aqua papa."

4. Red Carpet Memories

Having a Hollywood star as a dad certainly comes with its perks. In 2021, Momoa took Lola and Nakoa-Wolf to the London premiere of No Time to Die.

The kids not only got to walk the red carpet, but they also met singer Billie Eilish, who, along with her brother Finneas, wrote the movie's theme song.

The experience was unforgettable for Momoa’s children, especially given that Eilish’s song later won Best Original Song at the 2022 Academy Awards.

Beyond their adventures in Hollywood, the Momoa family also has some unforgettable rockstar moments. In 2017, Jason took his kids to a Guns N’ Roses concert where they got the chance to meet legendary guitarist Slash backstage.

Sharing his excitement, he posted about the encounter on Instagram: "Dream come true my kids getting to meet SLASH😜😜😜😜😝😝." 

Jason’s long-standing admiration for Slash made the experience even more special, and it was a moment that will likely stay with his kids for years to come.

9. Passing Down Traditions

Growing up in Hawaii, Momoa was raised by Da Hui, a surf group whose name translates to "the pack" or "family." He’s passionate about passing down the values and traditions he learned from them to his children.

Momoa is dedicated to teaching them how to become the next generation of "guardians of the ocean," ensuring that they carry on the legacy of protecting and respecting the sea.

Momoa earned major "Cool Dad" points when he threw a special birthday bash for Lola’s 12th birthday in 2019. To celebrate, he arranged a private screening of The Lion King, making the day extra memorable for his daughter.

In January 2018, Momoa’s family took a trip to New York City to watch him make some late-night TV appearances.

After his guest spot on The Tonight Show, where he playfully battled Jimmy Fallon in a segment, he took his kids on a quick stopover at the Saturday Night Live studio, making it a fun-packed East Coast adventure for the family.

12. Advocate for the Oceans

Momoa’s passion for the environment runs deep. In 2022, the UN Environment Programme named him an Advocate for Life Below Water in recognition of his commitment to water conservation. His children were right by his side for the special moment, showing their support for their father’s dedication to making a difference.

Proud of the experience, Momoa took to Instagram to share a photo of himself with Lola and Nakoa-Wolf and captioned it, “Papa loves you babies mahalo for standing by my side.”

13. A Special Premiere

In 2022, Momoa brought his kids to the red carpet premiere of his Netflix film Slumberland. During an interview with E! News, Lola jumped in to share that she had spent a lot of time on set with her dad.

“We were there for most of the time,” she revealed. She added, “It was incredible. Me and my friends choreographed a dance routine to ‘Don’t Start Now’ by Dua Lipa and my dad loved the dance so he put it in the movie.”

Momoa was so proud of the routine that he even shared a behind-the-scenes video of it on Instagram.

14. Father-Daughter Style

In June 2024, Momoa and Lola attended the Los Angeles premiere of Bikeriders at TCL Chinese Theatre. Both dressed for the occasion in biker-inspired outfits.

Lola sported a black leather jacket and skull-themed t-shirt, while her dad matched her style with a jacket from the Indigenous-based Redrum Motorcycle Club. To top it off, they both wore matching black sunglasses, giving them a cool, coordinated look.

“WOW so exciting to see my friends in this movie,” Momoa wrote on Instagram, expressing his excitement for the event. He added, “It was wonderful please go check it out this Friday Love u lola bear and all my friends for coming.”

15. Eco-Friendly Film Screening

In January 2024, Lola and Nakoa-Wolf joined their father at a special screening of the documentary Common Ground in Los Angeles.

The event took place at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, and the film had previously premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2023, where it won the Human/Nature Award.

Momoa’s participation in the documentary as one of the interviewees highlighted his ongoing commitment to environmental causes.

16. Celebrating Father’s Day

Father’s Day 2024 was a special one for Momoa. He shared a touching post on Instagram, featuring a snapshot of himself, his father Joseph, and his son Nakoa-Wolf enjoying time together at the beach.

Alongside the photo, Momoa wrote a heartfelt caption: “LOVE U POPS. LOVE U SON. LOVE U UNKOS. LOVE U MY BRADDAHS.”
